Fast Image: the cheapest way to test an AI image idea
Fast Image is our own quick text-to-image model for drafts. What it is for, what it is not, and how to use it as a cheap sketchbook before a big render.

Every image project has a phase where most ideas are wrong. You try a composition, it is too busy. You try a color scheme, it is too sweet. Paying full price for each of those wrong turns is how a small project gets expensive. Fast Image exists for that phase. It is the one model in the catalog we run ourselves, it is the cheapest one there, and it gives you a small JPEG draft in seconds.
There are a few things people expect from it that it does not do, so let us clear those up first.
Myth 1: it is a lower setting of the big models
It is not. Fast Image is its own renderer with its own look, so a draft here is a sketch of the idea, not a preview of what a premium model will produce from the same words. Use it to answer questions like "does a wide shot work for this?" or "is a night scene better than a day scene?", then move the winning prompt to the model you will ship with.
Myth 2: it improves your prompt for you
No. There is no prompt enhancement here: what you type is what gets drawn. That is a feature for testing, because when the picture changes you know it was your words that changed it. It also means a lazy prompt gets a lazy picture. Write the subject, the setting, the light and the mood, the same way the prompt guide describes.
Myth 3: you can feed it a reference photo
You cannot. The form has exactly two fields: the prompt and the aspect ratio. Text in, picture out. For anything that starts from an existing image, an edit or a style match, use one of the image to image models on the models page.
What it is genuinely good at
- Composition tests. Try the same scene in square, portrait and wide. The ratio list runs from very wide banners to tall strips, which makes it a quick way to see where a layout breaks. The aspect ratio guide helps you choose.
- Mood boards. Ten quick variations of a palette or a time of day, side by side, for a fraction of what the same board costs on a premium model.
- Prompt debugging. When a premium model keeps getting something wrong, strip the prompt down here and find which phrase causes it.
- Thumbnails and placeholders where a small picture is all the layout needs for now.
Three prompts to try
A lighthouse on a rocky island at dusk, storm clouds breaking, one beam of light across dark water, painterly, wide shot.Flat lay of a breakfast table from directly above: coffee, a croissant, an open notebook, morning window light, soft shadows.A cozy reading nook in a treehouse, warm lamp light, rain on the window, children's book illustration style.Lifehacks
- Change one thing per run. Fast and cheap tempts you to change everything at once. Change one phrase, render, compare. That is the whole value of a draft model.
- Keep a winners file. Copy each prompt that worked into a note. When you move to a premium model, you start from tested words instead of a guess. The cost per usable image post shows how much that saves.
The honest limitation
It is a draft. The picture is small, a JPEG, fine on a phone screen and too small for print, a hero banner or a crop into a detail. At draft size there is little room for fine detail, so hands, small text and crowds are not what it is for. And because the service is ours and light, it is now and then busy: a render can fail, in which case you are not charged and can simply run it again. Use it to decide, then render the final with a model built for finals.
Questions
Is Fast Image the cheapest model on Genlaxy?
Yes, it is the lowest price in the catalog. The exact price shows on the Generate button before you run.
Can I use Fast Image through the API?
No, it is available in the studio only. The API lists the other catalog models.
Can I upload a reference image to Fast Image?
No. It takes a prompt and an aspect ratio, nothing else. Use an image to image model for edits and style matching.
